Liu He Ba Fa wird wegen der grossen Menge enthaltener Techniken oft als Enzyklopädie der Kampfkunst bezeichnet. Je nach Zählweise kommt man auf 500 – 700 in der Form enthaltene Techniken, die sich abwandeln und auf diese Weise unendlich kombinieren lassen.
Wichtiger als Techniken sind die in der Form enthaltenen Bewegungsprinzipien. Wenn man diese verinnerlicht hat, kann man in jede erdenklich Richtung explosive Energie (Fajin) abgeben. Das Ziel ist es, über die Form zur Formlosigkeit zu finden.
Das Liu He Ba Fa System besteht aus einer langen Form, welche sich in zwei Teile gliedert. Jeder Teil beinhaltet 33 Bewegungsfolgen, die wiederum viele verschiedene Einzelbewegungen ohne Wiederholungen enthalten. Die Form beinhaltet Würfe, Hebel, Greiftechniken gegen empfindliche Gliedmaßen, Faust-, Handflächen- und Handrückenschläge, Fingerstiche, Kniestöße und verschiedene tiefe Tritte.
Die fünfte der sechs Harmonien heisst: „Der Geist ist vereiningt mit der Bewegung“.
Das bedeutet, dass der Geist des Praktizierenden sich in den Bewegungen ausdrückt. Auf diese Weise wird die Form zu einem Ausdruck der Persönlichkeit des Praktizierenden. Vieleicht erklärt das die Vielfalt der Liu He Ba Fa Variationen.
