Silat Lincah – malaysische Kampfkunst
Cvp: Could you tell me a little bit about the History of your style of Silat and how it is organised today?
Glenn Lobo: Lincah is a Malaysian style. It was founded over 40 years ago by Maha Guru Haji Omar din, from another style. There are over 1million people practising it in Malaysia. there is a loose syllabus and grading structure.
CVP: How did you come in contact with the martial arts in general and with Silat specifically?
Glenn Lobo: I first started training in judo when I was 10. I then tried several other arts, from aikido, to TKD, karate, ju jitsu, wing chun, and escrima and JKD, before finally settling on silat.
CVP: Is there a special tactic or weapon Silat is known for?
Glenn Lobo: Silat is known for 2 weapons- the keris and the kerambit. I was taught it as a duelling combat art.
CVP: How is the system structured?
Glenn Lobo: There are basic techniques- punches and kicks, then basic 2 man techniques called buah. Buah in malay means fruit, so these are the fruits of your labour in mastering your basics if you like. from here come the pecahan the fruit only become tasty when you open them, and that is whet the pecahan are. They allow 2 man drills like combat but in a controlled environment.
CVP: What about Knife vs. Knife?
Glenn Lobo: Silat is good with a knife but it is not its forte. Keris vs keris is more our style.
CVP: Is there also self defense against Knife taught in the system and what do you personally think about that topic?
Glenn Lobo: There is self defence vs. knife taught. I teach it on the understanding that the best way to fight a knife is to not be there. You will get cut and possibly killed, but there are things you can do to reduce the risks and improve your chances.
CVP: Could you explain a training method or exercise special to your style?
Glenn Lobo: I have developed some footwork drills to allow students to learn to move our way rather than degenerating into a kickboxing style of fighting.
CVP: Is there a sparring format in Silat?
Glenn Lobo: „We do some but only at a much higher level. Before that we drill the buah and pecahan getting faster and more aggressive but still training in a controlled manner.
CVP: Thank you very much for this interview.
